What is a Good tip in Playa del Carmen?

Imagine sitting at a wooden table, smooth and warm to the touch. A small folder in front of you is more significant than a paperback book. This folder is made of synthetic material, possibly faux leather, with a smooth and slightly padded finish. When you open it, two flaps inside hold a piece of paper with the details of your bill. Between these flaps, there's a 200 Mexican peso bill. While you can't see it, you can feel its distinctive texture: a combination of paper and fibers that gives it a specific stiffness. This bill feels new, clean, and firm to the touch. When you close the folder, you think the bill is secured inside and ready to be picked up by the server.
In Mexico, a tip of 15% to 20% is recommended for good service. Still, it ultimately depends on your satisfaction and the quality of the service.

The standard minimum tip for average service in Mexico is around 10%. If the service is good, 15% is considered standard, and 20% is appropriate for exceptional service.


However, the amount of tip one chooses to leave is a personal decision. For instance, when I worked as a waiter, I always aimed to provide top-notch service, and it was not unusual for tips to exceed 25% or even more.


It all depends on the waiter or service provider's charisma, attentiveness, and performance.


It's essential to be aware, as it is common in many restaurants to automatically add a 15% to 20% tip to the bill without prior consultation.

Many of them have their claws removed and teeth pulled to prevent them from being a danger, a painful and traumatic process that leaves them defenseless.


Each photo taken represents a contribution to this cycle of mistreatment and death. It's heartbreaking to see these babies in such deplorable conditions, used as mere props for photographs.


Keeping these wild animals on leashes, bottle-feeding them, and posing on people's laps all day is neither natural nor ethical.


I urge you to think twice before paying for a photo. Do not contribute to this industry of abuse. Instead, educate yourself and spread awareness about the reality of these practices among your friends and family.
