The water in Mexico and Playa del Carmen is potable; however, drinking it without boiling it first or using a filter to purify it is not advisable. We recommend drinking bottled water.

Is Water Safe to Drink in Playa del Carmen? While the water in Playa del Carmen is technically potable, I do not recommend drinking it. If you are not accustomed to the bacteria in the region, it may cause stomach discomfort.

Additionally, the water here contains a lot of lime, making it particularly hard on the kidneys. The hardness of the water is evident not only in its unpleasant taste but also in its ability to clog pipes and damage white goods over time.

However, it is spotless for brushing your teeth and showering. There is no danger if you accidentally brushed teeth with Mexican water.

The best option is to purchase a 20-liter water jug, which is much more cost-effective than buying bottles, and you can refill it at any convenience store like 7/11 or OXXO.

We suggest drinking purified water, buying a filter, or boiling the water. Still, due to the high lime content, it is not advisable to consume it directly. So, is Mexican water safe to drink? The answer is yes, but it is not advisable.
