Pet Friendly Hotels Playa del Carmen: Moonshine Hotel

This hotel, located in the heart of the tourist area, is an ideal option for those visiting Playa del Carmen who don't want to leave their pets behind, like this beautiful Chihuahua posing for a photo like an actual celebrity.

Finding pet-friendly hotels in Playa del Carmen can be a challenge. There are limited options, and many establishments often have an unwelcoming attitude towards guests traveling with pets, primarily due to hygiene concerns.

Having worked in the hospitality industry for over 10 years, I can confirm that our beloved pets sometimes have unexpected physiological needs that can lead to stained sheets or linens, resulting in additional hotel costs.

The Moonshine Hotel comes to the rescue in this regard. Located in the heart of Playa del Carmen's nightlife scene, this hotel has become a haven for travelers who want to enjoy the vibrant destination without leaving their furry friends behind.

Surrounded by popular nightclubs like Mandala and La Vaquita and just a block away from the famous Fifth Avenue and the beach, Moonshine offers both convenience and inclusivity for pet owners.

Things to Consider Before Staying at Moonshine Hotel

If you're a party lover, this hotel is perfect for you, as it's next to the best nightclubs in the city. However, noise is something to consider if you're looking for peace and quiet.

1. Nighttime Noise

The most crucial factor to consider is the noise. Being in the heart of Playa del Carmen's nightlife means you'll be surrounded by loud music until the early morning hours.

Not only will you hear the music, but you'll also feel it as the bass vibrations resonate through the building. This is undoubtedly an excellent choice if this doesn't bother you.

2. Rustic Charm

The hotel's lush greenery and common areas provide an excellent setting for relaxing with friends or family.

It also features a small pool—when I say small, I mean it's not an infinity pool like those at more luxurious hotels. Nevertheless, it's ideal for cooling off on hot afternoons.

Prime Location in Playa del Carmen’s Tourist Hub

This hotel is just 100 meters from the beach and the famous Fifth Avenue and Calle Corazón.

One of Moonshine Hotel's biggest perks is its unbeatable location. It's right in the heart of Playa del Carmen, making it an excellent base for exploring the city.

The bustling Fifth Avenue (Quinta Avenida) and Calle Corazón are lined with shops, restaurants, bars, and street performers just a block away.

It's the vibrant artery of the city, and staying here means you're right at the center of the action.

The Caribbean Sea is also just a short walk away for beach lovers.

Additionally, practical amenities are close at hand. A Seven-Eleven is across the street, perfect for grabbing snacks, drinks, or any last-minute essentials.

The nearby Party Taco stand serves delicious tacos that are a must-try for any foodie. There are also pharmacies, tattoo parlors, and convenience stores within walking distance.

Whether you're out late at night or exploring during the day, everything you need is just a stone's throw away.

Affordable Prices and Room Options

Several room options suit different needs, from simple rooms with beds to fully equipped apartments with a kitchen and refrigerator.

Another major draw of Moonshine Hotel is its consistently affordable rates, which remain reasonable throughout the year, even during peak tourist seasons.

For travelers on a budget, this is a rare find in such a prime location.

Here's a tip to save even more: ask the front desk if they offer a discounted rate for cash payments.

Many guests have reported getting pleasant surprises with lower rates simply by paying in cash. This can make a noticeable difference, especially for more extended stays.

Despite being a budget-friendly option, it offers a variety of room choices to cater to different needs, from cozy accommodations for solo travelers to spacious apartments for groups or families.

The hotel offers various rooms, some accommodating up to six people. My personal favorites are the apartments with street views and small balconies. They're perfect for enjoying a drink while soaking in the nightlife vibe.

That said, I recommend avoiding rooms on the ground floor. These tend to have issues with humidity due to their proximity to the pool and lack of natural light.

If you're sensitive to moisture, opt for a room on a higher floor for a more comfortable stay.

Is Playa del Carmen Dog Friendly?

A girl posing for the camera with her little dog.
Playa del Carmen is pet-friendly; however, pets are prohibited in particular shopping centers or stores, as in many places worldwide. Beaches are also restricted, except for Dog Beach at Playa 72.

Playa del Carmen is pet-friendly. It's common to see people walking their dogs along Quinta Avenida or throughout the city. Locals love taking their pets for walks, which also applies to tourists.

However, it's important to note that pets are not allowed on the beach. If you decide to break this rule, you may receive a warning from the authorities who regularly patrol the area.

You could face a fine, or, in some cases, your pet could be taken away.

But don't worry, there's good news! A unique beach where you can enjoy the sea with your furry friends is Dog Beach, also known as Playa 72.

It's a perfect spot for pet owners, located next to Punta Esmeralda, near the Paradisus Hotel.

The Indian Girl mural by Senkoe has captivated the imagination of both locals and tourists, who stop to take photos as souvenirs to take home day by day.

What sets this hotel apart is its mural of the Indian woman, created by the talented artist Senkoe, who has left his mark in various parts of the world.

The Indian woman mural has become a genuine attraction, with many people stopping by every day to admire it and, of course, to snap a photo to take home.

With its distinctive colors and design, it’s an excellent decorative addition not just to the hotel but to the entire street.

Pet Friendly Hotels Playa del Carmen: Conclusion

A group of people swimming in a pool
The pool is small and a bit cold on cloudy days, but it's an excellent option to cool off during the hottest months.

The Moonshine is an excellent choice for travelers looking for a pet-friendly and welcoming hotel in Playa del Carmen. Its rustic charm, unbeatable location, and inclusivity for pets make it a unique option.

If you're a fan of nightlife and don't mind the noise, this could be the perfect place for you and your furry companion to enjoy all that Playa del Carmen has to offer.

However, it's important to note that the Moonshine is affordable, and you shouldn't expect five-star facilities.

This means that sometimes issues like hot water, the television, or the internet may not work perfectly, which is common in three-star hotels at this price range.

Additionally, a deposit of 1000 pesos is required at check-in to cover any potential damages caused by pets. This deposit is fully refundable at the end of your stay, provided everything is in order, making it a perfectly reasonable request.
